Calling from Windows Live Messenger to any Google Talk user

Our gateway now allows to any Windows Live Messenger user to make outgoing voice calls to any Google Talk user. This interoperability was resulted by a hard work led by our team. Making calls from Windows Live Messenger to Google Talk is pretty simple:

Step 1. Subscribe your Windows Live Messenger to the service in one of the possible ways:

  • 1st Way. Open your Windows Live Messenger and invite new recipient whose user id is . Yes, this same ID is used in Google Talk too.
  • 2nd Way. Go to the main page of this site and submit your Windows Live Messenger user id (or MSN Passport) by pressing "Invite" button, then accept invitation from .

Step 2. Type in a command like CALL in the chat window to place an outgoing call to Google Talk user . Calls to domains like gmail.com and google.com are automatically treated like calls to Windows Live Messenger. If your participant uses ID other than in these domains, you have to define it with an gtalk: prefix. E.g. CALL gtalk:.

Step 3. In a second or two you will get an incoming call from which you have to accept (or reject if you have suddenly changed your mind).

Step 4. When incoming call is accepted you will hear a beep signal followed by (a usual voice indicator of call progress). Text messages will also display call progress.

Step 5. When your call is answered on the remote side, "Remote answered. Now talking.." message is displayed. From this moment, you may talk.

Step 6. When you drop the call or the remote party hangs up, a message like "Charged time: XX secs. Reason = EndedByLocalUser" is displayed to you.

Please note...

  • Calls from Windows Live Messenger to Google Talk are free and not charged, but you have to keep your balance positive to be able to make calls. See your personal account page on how to update, use MYPAGE command to get a link.
  • We always account calls session time, so a message like Charged time: 5 secs is always displayed for notification purpose.
  • This service is not expected to be used for emergency calls.
